Theater Web Site Evaluations

1.  Name of Web Site:  Arts Work – Theater Education Sites
3.  Copyright Date and/or Last Update:  Copyright © 2002 by Arizona State University and the Arizona Board of Regents.  Updated 6/21/2010
4.  Author/Organization Credentials:
5.  Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:  This website has a very basic design layout, it is easy to read and find everything that you are looking for.  There is really no use of graphics on this website except for the Arts Work logo.  This is purely a text based driven website for theatre teachers.  This website is very easy to navigate and you can find exactly what you are looking for not only for students, but there is a tab for teachers as well and there are multiple links for you to check out.
6.  Response and Recommendation for Use:  This site could be used as a great theatre resource site as well as a good site for teachers to use to set up their next lesson.  This website has more than just information on theatre it has info on multiple arts as well.  This site would be put to good use in teaching the class about some other art forms.  It would also be useful for any class who is working on any sort of research project.

1.  Name of Web Site:  Tupelo Community Theatre

5.  Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:  I really like the design and set up of this website and it is so easy to use.  The design is neat especially the theatre type designs like the red curtains and the lights on top of the site.  Everything is well labeled and all of the links work well.  It is very easy to find everything that you might need on this site and since it is a site for a community theatre there is more information for a teacher and students to use than would be expected.  This includes the backstage tab that has an in depth glossary of theatre terms and definitions and an informative section on tech tips, which teaches you things like how to build a basic flat and teaches about how to set up a rehearsal schedule.
6:  Response and Recommendation for Use:  I really like this site and I’ve actually used the glossary on the Tupelo Community Theatre website for one of my previous courses.  Other than the usefulness of the glossary and the tech tips section this site would be great for teaching about production management.  This site has so much useful information about rehearsal schedules and directing a play that it would be a perfect resource for a production management project.  One project that I would do in my theatre class would be to have the students set up their very own theatre.  One of my favorite projects is to have students create their own theatre and that responsibility comes with a schedule of plays and a stage layout, it is an extremely fun project and this site has enough information for the students to see how a successful theatre runs.

1.  Name of Web Site:  The Broadway League
2.  Web Site Address:  http://www.broadwayleague.com
3.  Copyright Date and/or Last Update:  Copyright © 2010 The Broadway League
4.  Author/Organization Credentials:
5.  Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:  This website is extremely user friendly; it is easy to find your way around the site to get what you need from it.  It also has a very sleek and friendly looking design.  I know friendly is an odd way to describe the design of a website, but I think that it is an important aspect for a website.  I have been on a great many sites that as soon as you open it up the look is so intimidating that you automatically just move onto the next site before looking to see if the current site has the quality information that you need.
6.  Response and Recommendation for Use:  This website would be great when it comes to teaching a class about all it takes to put on a Broadway style show.  Musical theatre, especially anything popular enough to be on Broadway, is completely different that putting on a regular show.  There are so many requirements and laws that need to be followed when putting on such a production and this site could help with teaching a class about how much work goes into a famous show such as Wicked.  The Broadway League is not a league for actors, it is a national trade association and its members are people like theatre owner and producers.  This would be another great site for teaching production management, but on a greater scale than a community theatre would be.

1.  Name of Web Site:  Welcome to the Shakespeare Houses Website
2.  Web Site Address:  http://www.shakespeare.org.uk/
3.  Copyright Date and/or Last Update:  Copyright License ©2009
4.  Author/Organization Credentials:
5.  Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:  This is a well set up with so many great graphics to peak you interest and make you want to look further.  It is also a very surprisingly simple website to navigate around.  There is so much information about Shakespeare on this site that you think that it would be difficult to find everything that you need or that there would me some information left off of the site.  There is so much information on Shakespeare on this site and it is so easy to navigate that a student could spend hours on this site and still have something to look at, but not get frustrated by not being able to utilize the site.
6.  Response and Recommendation for Use:  Every theatre teacher has to teach a large part of their year on Shakespeare.  This site has so much information and his home that any teacher would be able to do multiple projects with their class using this website.  A teacher could use this site in a number of ways including; just giving it to students as a reference, it could be used for any sorts of research paper, or a fun project about Shakespeare like writing a play about the most famous playwright.

1.  Name of Web Site:  Amarillo Little Theatre
2.  Web Site Address:  http://www.amarillolittletheatre.org/
3.  Copyright Date and/or Last Update:  © Copyright 2006/2010 ~ Amarillo Little Theatre
4.  Author/Organization Credentials:
5.  Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:  This website is one of the more graphically heavy sites that I have looked at.  It is designed very well and peaks your interest.  The site is very easy to navigate, but the font on the tabs is a bit small if you have any difficulties with your vision.  There are quite a few pictures of their productions all over this website and it makes you more interested in the theatre, plus it also makes you want to go and see these productions.
6.  Response and Recommendation for Use:  As a theatre teacher I think that it is very important for your students to be familiar with local theatres that they and their families can visit on their own time.  I also think that it is very important for students to get a chance to go to a live production put on by a professional theatre.  In my classroom I will try to find out what the local theatre’s production season entails and teach one of the plays that the theatre is putting on so that I can take my class.  This would be a great learning opportunity for the class on multiple levels, they could also do a project where they write a review or even compare and contrast the live play to the written work.
